The "Reading Amigo" program is based on research performed by Lydia Maldonado, MA Ed.
When her first grandson was born, Lydia realized that her children had no resources for teaching their kids Spanish. Utilizing her background, (Masters in Education from the University of P.R.) she embarked...
Waiting Does Not Work!
The theory of "late bloomers" does not work. For far too long parents, educators and the scientific community found comfort in the "developmental lag" theory. Research conducted throughout the world has put the weight of research squarely behind the "skill deficit theory" and against the "developmental lag theory". Each study (Juel, 1988; Francis et al., 1996; Shaywitz et al., 1999) tracked the reading development of children beginning in first grade.
In the simplest terms, these studies ask: Do struggling readers catch up? The data from the studies are clear: Late bloomers are rare; skill deficits are almost always what prevent children from blooming as readers. This research may be counter-intuitive to elementary teachers who have seen late-bloomers in their own classes or heard about them from colleagues. But statistically speaking, such students are rare. (Actually, there is nearly a 90 percent chance that a poor reader in first grade will remain a poor reader.)
These studies found that students who have a higher "phonetic awareness" when starting first grade are 9 times more likely to stay on course throughout their education.
If you can get a child's attention, you can teach them!
Reading Amigo is based on the concept of "stickiness". Children are very smart and they want to learn. They simply need the right fuel. The right fuel means learning concepts in a way that is clear and simple and yet challenges their blossoming minds. These two concepts are not contradictory, they actually blend quite well to form a video, music, application based learning system that far exceed other programs in its delivery and therefore its results. A great question to ask yourself is, why do animals always talk in children's movies? The simple answer is because children love it. Children love it because it's a simple concept (an animal) and yet it talks, which they know not to be true. By combining these concepts of simplicity and challenging, Lydia and her team has created a program that will ignite your child's curiosity and power their imagination while teaching them to read Spanish, regardless of their background.
Early Learning is the key!

Reading Amigo provides you with the tools for your baby to learn to read Spanish at exactly the right time. Research shows the optimum time for your child to make new neural connections is during their first five years of life. This gives a parent only a short span of time to introduce spoken and written languages. Because the brain is so "flexible" at this point, it creates the perfect opportunity for your child to learn a new language. Research clearly shows that learning a new language improves I.Q. scores of average intelligence children. Don't wait to give your child the gift of learning a new language. When you start early, it's never a foreign language it just becomes their second language! By utilizing Reading Amigo program your child is introduced to language, music, and imagery in a method that is fun and inviting for your child.
How the Program Works

Your child watches the videos and will start to associate written words with their related action scenes.
Your child will hear the spoken words from the video and will start to associate sounds with written language.
By saying the words the child will reaffirm the connections between the visual, and audio imagery in the child's mind.
By touching and playing with physical objects as we our interactive tools such as our Ipad and Iphone application your child's mind will once again reaffirm and cement the newly acquired language. The complete path is completed between the audio, visual imagery, and the related motor skills.
